3 Sense Kaleidoscope (tm) 2nd edition 2001

The 3 Sense Kaleidoscope (tm) Series was created to allow 3 senses at the same time to focus on an integrated stimulus. Beautiful images for the eyes, restful and energizing sounds and music for the ears, and captivating aromas for the nose are combined for a unique experience. This is the 2nd in a series of kaleidoscopes created to push the 3 sense concept further each time.

Theme
This scope's theme is Japanese Cherry. It was created for a collection in Japan and is the only one of it's kind. Fine cherry from southern Indiana was used and the cherry theme is repeated in the kaleidoscope. Cherry blossom and branch carvings are used in the decoration on the doors and roof parts. Cherry trees are used in the background to continue the theme. A cherry blossom turner completes the theme treatment.

The kaleidoscope, through the use of a 2 mirror angled(22.5, and 2(78.25 degree sides )prism, provides a spectacular octagon image (16 fold 8 point). Front surfaced mirror and flocked light sink 3rd side are used inside. The natural oiled cherry casing is highlighted with a burl side pieces as well as a constructed book matached maple, walnut, and koa eye piece . The scope can be removed from the base to aid in changing object disks. The laminated object image disks were designed with color combinations consistant with current color therapy guidlines. The object disk is the same size as an audio CD so that they could be packaged together for easy product distribution. The flower disk was created by scanning the flowers from my garden and printing that image onto thin paper using a computer CD label program. The paper was then laminated at a local office supply store. Making your own object disk is a very easy project and that means that there could be an unlimited supply of different disks to make and enjoy. Revolving the cherry blossom turner winds a knetic movement that turns the object disk. I addition, the object disk is free turning so any speed and direction is possible. A strong supplied light source is necessary for correct illumination. (see aroma section). The light is filtered by various stained and dichroic glass sections before the light gets to the image disk.

Sound
This version of the 3 Sense Kaleidoscope was created to enclose and store all of the parts within the scope structure itself. It contains the light, a good quality Sony CD player, and storage for the object disks, incence, and supplies. The 2 CDs supplied both consist of natural sounds mixed in different ways with classical and folk music. They are chosen with music therapy principals as a guide. Both CDs were chosen for their uplifting and calming effects. This scope was produced for a collector in Japan. The music was chosen from beautiful and calming Japanese flute and other traditional instruments.
