The Third 3 Sense Kaleidoscope

The Third 3 Sense Kaleidoscope

This is the 3rd in a series of kaleidoscopes created to bring together 3 human senses for the enjoyment and benefit of the user. Kaleidoscopes have always provided beautiful images for the eye. I hope to carry this tradition and add aroma therapy and music therapy to the kaleidoscope. I beleive the combination of these 3 senses has a geometric rather than additive power to pleasure and experisence. The assignment in this kaleidoscope, my third scope using these 3 senses, was to create a completely hand held scope. No wires, no electrical cords, and nothing that would get in the way of enjoyment of the 3 senses. The goal of this series of projects is to eventually provide an affordable kaleidoscope that can be shared and tested under all sorts of conditions that will help refine the principals of combining these senses for the benefit and pleasure of mankind.
Inside the 3rd 3 Sense Scope
Front Panel
Remove the 2 screws to reveal the inside. The inside contains the battery compartment (uses 4 "AA" batteries) to power the amplifyer that drives the stereo speakers and the twin LED (light emitting diode) lights. LED was chosen as a light source because of the brightness, color, and low power consumption.
Bottom Panel
Remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the unit to have access to the object chamber area. The 3 object chambers provide a variety of colors, textures, and interest. The chambers are pressure fit and a small amount of force at a slight angle will remove the chamber. To install, insert the chamber into the recess and squeeze together it and the knob. The kaleidoscope may be used with or without the bottom in place. If the bottom is left off, one has to consider the additional light that will enter thru the bottom area.
Music (Sound)
The use of an MP3 player represents a new direction in the use of music in kaleidoscopes. Any song or sound can be loaded thru a computer attached by a USB cord. The MP3 player was chosen because of it's small size, ease of use, and high quality of sound reproduction. There is no need of changing tapes or CD, and no degrade of sound as with a tape player. Complete instructions are included.
Aroma (Smell)
Aroma Therapy has long been known to assist in relaxation and stimulation. The 3rd 3 Sense Kaleidoscope is provided with 9 different blends of essential oils blended by a professional aroma therapist. To use these oils, remove the cap and apply the oil blend to the cotton pad. 3 to 5 drops are enough to last a few hours. Additional cotton pads are provided. Once the session is done, it is suggested to remove the cotton so that the aroma in the closed chamber is neutral.
Controls
Viewing the scope controls fron the top:The volume knob is the knob on the left, volume increases as it is turned clockwise. There is no need to use this knob as there is also a volume control on the MP3 player. The eye viewing hole is in the middle of the top. On and off are provided by a push-push switch (push on- push off). The red LED light is lighted when the power is on. The MP3 player has volume, tone, track, on off switch and needs to be turned on and off independently (full instructions are provided) with the unit.

Images
Images thru the kaleidoscope are realized with a unique mirror system. 2 mirrors are used with a 3rd wood side. The image is further enhanced by the addition of dichroic glass at a 45 degree angle that both enlarges the image and plays with the light in an interesting way. The dichroic glass picks up and changes both light from the LEDs and reflected light from the objects in the object case.
